Uzhhorod National University


Uzhhorod National University (UzhNU )was founded on Oct. 18th, 1945. According to the international scientometric data, the university was ranked among the top 10 leading scientific centers of Ukraine. UzhNU belongs to the traditional universities of Ukraine, holding the highest 4th level of accreditation.

The university is young but has acquired a well-deserved reputation in the scientific world. The university was among the top 20 universities that received large government funding for scientific research, approx. 19 million 479 thousand 965 UAH of the government funds for basic and applied research in 2017-2019. It celebrated its 74th anniversary on the 21st of Oct 2019.



Uzhhorod is situated at the border of Slovakia. The city is surrounded by three seas, the Baltic, the Adriatic and the Black Sea (650-690 km) making it the most inland city in Europe.

The city got its name from the river Uzh.

As per an estimate of 2016, the population of Uzhhorod is approximately 115,163.

Uzhhorod has a humid continental climate with cold winters and warm summers. The coldest month is January when the average temperature is approx. −1.7 °C, while the warmest month is July when the average temperature is approx. 20.9 °C.


The University is proud of it’s academic and teaching staff who have made a significant contribution to medical science. It consists of 150 doctors of science, 136 candidates of science, 12 laureates of State Prize, 57 Doctors Honoris Causa, 2 corresponding members of the National Academy of Science and 2 corresponding members of the branches of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine.

The university conducts joint research and partners with many scientific institutions worldwide. Every year the scholars of the University publish twelve periodicals, more than forty textbooks and manuals and hold thirty scientific conferences.


At present, about 15,500 students study here, including more than 700 international students from more than 30 countries and growing. Courses are available in the English language too.


An integral part of UzhNU is the campus, which includes 6 dormitories to accommodate national and international students.
There are two student clinics, student shops and cafes, playground.

There are libraries, reading rooms with free Wi-Fi internet, Web-based learning resources, interactive classrooms, and lecture capture

For leisure, the student dormitories are equipped with modern gym and sports facilities
