International Students

Initially admissions of International Students to T. Shevchenko National University of Kyiv dates back to 1920. Citizens of Cuba, Guinea, Indonesia, Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, Cameroon, Benin, Zanzibar, Yemen, Algeria were the first students of the faculty. Afterwards they became doctors, engineers, agriculturists, diplomats, economists all over the world.

It comes to more than 20 000 international students from different countries (Austria, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, India, Israel, Jamaica, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Maldives, Italy, New Zeeland, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, USA) graduated from the University.
Presently the University offers all the educational and scientific facilities, to provide high quality education for international students to enjoy studies in Ukraine. The University provides regular practicing, where senior students get real training of theoretical skills after studying main subjects. It gives blossom of support for students to get admission in Bachelor’s and Master’s degree to study in English or Ukrainian and provides further education and training of scientists for a degree of Doctor of Philosophy.

The University focuses on developing and implementing the latest innovation and new techniques of teaching international students. The University offers a comfortable dormitory with a café and checking room, reading rooms, sports hall and playground, security system and leisure hall, equipped with audio-video equipment and satellite television.
Once the Medical Faculty in English medium has been designed at T.Shevchenko National University of Kyiv it is now the best option for international students to study Medicine in English (MBBS, MD). The University remains the oldest, the biggest and the most respectable University in Ukraine.

International students are among the main goals of international activities at the University.

Annually more than 500 international students get admission to study at T. Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. The academic year starts in September, and the last date for international students to arrive to the University is the 30th October.
Admissions are opened for applications from April to September.
International applicants are called to send their documents by email:
  • passport and education certificates with subject grades are to be forwarded to university email: info@knu.kiev.ua
  • confirmed applicant will receive an official admission confirmation letter once the documents approved and verified by International Admissions Department
  • the applicant should also receive Invitation Letter, in order to apply for a student visa at the Embassy of Ukraine.

Medical Faculty for International Students

Presently T. Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is licensed by the Ministry of Education and Science for international students to study Medicine in English Medium and obtain degree of MBBS – Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery; MD – Doctor of Medicine. The medical studies for international students at T. Shevchenko National University of Kyiv are approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and comply with classical educating methods of teaching to train future doctors at the Faculty of Medicine for international students. In addition to standard teaching interdisciplinary methods the innovative educational technologies are applied to international students at the University: online lecturers, and controlling systems, webinars, multimedia systems, interactive web resources, and manuals etc.

International Relations

Today the University has bilateral partnership agreements with 227 foreign educational and scientific institutions from 57 countries. 180 foreign academics and lecturers from 32 countries visit the University annually to collaborate in research, attending conferences, and giving lectures. Each year more than 1500 lecturers, researchers and students travel abroad to 59 countries. Two-thirds of those take overseas trips in 2013 travelled abroad for academic purposes (conferences, training, and research).

The University of Kyiv has become more proactive in the foreign citizens recruitment process. At present, the number of foreign students enrolled at the University is 935. The Russian and English training programs set up to enable the number of international students increase.


Student accommodation is provided by a campus with comfortable halls of residence, computer clubs, sports facilities, cafeterias and dance halls. To promote a healthy lifestyle, the University has both health spa and sports facilities on the banks of the river Dnipro.


International students, who are going to get the higher education in Ukraine, are offered a variety of educational programs for Bachelor, Master and Philosophy Doctor educational levels. Students can also study Ukrainian, English or Russian at the Preparatory Department as their pre-university training.


The Maksymovych Scientific Library — the main scientific library of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. The library is located in Kiev, Volodymyrska str., 58 near the Red building of the University of Kyiv. The library was founded together with the University in 1834.

Studying at The University

The University awards Junior Specialist’s, Bachelor’s, Higher Qualification Post-graduate degrees and Doctoral degrees. Overall, about 26 thousand students and students of a military school, 1,660 postgraduate students and about 130 PhD students are working for higher qualifications at the University.

The University Campus

There are 13 Faculties and 8 Institutes within the university. Kyiv University has a number of other faculties, including: a Ukrainian Studies Centre, a Geological and Zoological Museum, a Museum of the History of the University, an Interfaculty Museum of Linguistics, an Informatics Centre, an Astronomical Observatory, a Publishing and Reprographics Unit called “Kyiv University”, and Maksymovych Academic Library.
