Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University (LNMU or DHLNMU) formerly known as the Lviv State Medical Institute was founded on the 16th November 1784 and is considered one of the oldest and biggest medical universities in Ukraine. The university was conferred the highest accreditation level (level IV) in the year 1996.
Degree awarded by Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University is World Wide Accepted & Recognised by International Bodies and Organizations such as: -

The university is located in Lviv which is the seventh-largest city in western Ukraine, with an overall population of 7,24,713. It is considered as one of the main cultural centers of Ukraine with a rich historical heritage. Lviv is also the home of many cultural institutions, including a philharmonic orchestra and the Lviv Theatre of Opera and Ballet. The city also on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The climate of the city is humid continental with cold winters and mild summers.


The student’s hostels are located near the main academic buildings. Students can be accommodated in 8 hostels with everything needed for studying (including internet clubs and reading rooms), for day to day needs (with canteens, cafes, the sewing and footwear work-shops, the barber’s and the laundry open) and to keep themselves fit ( gyms available)

Over the years the university has produced more than 25 thousand doctors and pharmacists.
Currently, more than 1240 foreign citizens from 47 countries of the world are studying at the Faculties of General Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy

Students from Poland, Bulgaria, Germany, USA, Canada, Great Britain, Cyprus, Israel, Ecuador, India, Pakistan, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, Nigeria, Ghana, Zambia, Kenya, Namibia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Angola, Tunisia, Iran, and others.

Education in the field of Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy for International students are carried out in two languages – Ukrainian and English. English Foreign citizens who are not strong enough in the Ukrainian language can enter a one-year Preparatory course, which includes an intensive language program, as well as some basic training in Chemistry, Biology, and Physics. On successful completion of this course, the students can be enrolled in the 1st year of the course of their choice at Lviv National Medical University.


At present, contingent of university’s students is as follows (including International students): students – 6560 (including – 1030 part-time training), interns – 2149 (during 2012), MSc. course PG students – 63, post-graduate students – 110, PG students for doctor’s degree – 1, clinical residents – 103, Faculty of Postgraduate Studies students – 2568 (during 2012).

University’s structural divisions:

  • 6 faculties with 55 departments (39 clinical departments, 16 – theoretical), preparatory courses;
  • Center of new information technologies (computer classrooms, TV studio, printing house, office for computer printing, Internet unit);
  • Scientific research centers comprising of 7 research laboratories and experimental clinics
  • Library


The University’s staff includes 1211 scientists, 134 Doctor of Sciences and more than 620 Ph.D. degree holders, 113 professors, 369 associate professors, and 17 researchers.

Training of specialists in LNMU is provided at 6 Faculties: Medical Faculty, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Pharmacy (regular and correspondence education), Faculty of Postgraduate training, Faculty of Foreign Students.
