Kharkiv National Medical University(KNMU) is one of the oldest educational establishments of Ukraine coming into existence in the year 1805. It is located in Kharkiv, which is the second largest city in Ukraine.
The history of the University dates back to more than 200 years and is closely connected with the history of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.

Historically, Kharkiv National Medical University was the first higher medical educational institution in Ukraine.It was founded as the Medical Faculty of Kharkiv.

In 1920 the Medical Faculty of Kharkiv University was united with the Women’s Medical Institute, and Kharkiv Medical Academy was founded; one year later the latter was given another name: Kharkiv Medical Institute. In 1921, the Academy was renamed as Kharkiv Medical Institute. In 1994, the Institute served as a base for establishing Kharkiv State Medical University. STUDENT LIFE AT KNMU

The main Objective of University is to provide better education to the students. Life of students at KNMU is very conducive and interactive. The standard of living is not expensive here, which is considered to be a great advantage.

LIBRARY AND RESEARCH

Kharkiv National Medical University has a Scientific Library, which comprises over 1 million books (including those in the English language), with 11 reading halls.

HOSTELS

There are 6 hostels with many accommodation options for international students. It is important to consider whether you prefer an independent lifestyle or enjoy living in a community. All hostel rooms are fully furnished and are available in various sizes and many conveniences. Dormitory rooms at the hostel can accommodate 2 or 3 students in a room. In the hostel, each room is attached with a kitchen for students to cook food as per their taste. The USP of the hostels in Kharkiv are:

STUDYING AT THE UNIVERSITY​

Historically, the University has been a top medical/educational establishment in the country. The Degrees of the Kharkiv National Medical University is quite prestigious and is recognized in several countries of the world.

The University is placed fifth among the higher medical educational institutions of Ukraine as per the SCOPUS database.
It ranks forty-seventh among the Ukrainian higher educational institutions as per UNESCO “TOP 200”.

Kharkiv National Medical University was awarded the Order of Honour and Silver Diploma by “Golden Fortune”.

In 2010 it got the Leader of the Modern Education award.

Kharkiv National Medical University offers graduate and postgraduate programs in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and nursing where the students are taught in the English and Russian languages at the university.

The degrees offered by the university are recognized throughout the world. For instance, international establishments like the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Federation of Physiological Societies (FEPS), General Medical Council (UK) and the Medical Council of India (MCI) recognize the degrees offered by Kharkiv National Medical University.
Undergraduate programs offered at the university include the 6-year MBBS program, 5-year BDS program and B.Sc. Nursing. The programs offered at the university are taught in English as well as Russian.

The practical training starts from the 3rd year of the programs. Students get hands-on training at municipal hospitals in Kharkiv city.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Since 1961 students from various countries of Asia, Africa, and Latin America have been studying here. More than 3,600 specialists from 86 states of Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East have graduated from KNMU since 1951.

KNMU has become a prominent center for international students. The University is currently training about 7,000 students, among which are 2150 foreign citizens.

The academic staff consists of more than 630 teachers, including 102 Doctors of Sciences and Professors, 387 Candidates of Medical Science, 32 members of academies, 17 Honored Scientists.

Kharkiv National Medical University (KNMU) is one of the top medical universities located in Kharkiv city in the east of Ukraine. The first Capital of Ukraine.

ACADEMIC AND RESEARCH STAFF

The University has excellent teaching staff. It consists of 727 teachers including 121 Doctors of Sciences and Professors, 448 Candidates of Medical Science, 34 members of academies,16 Honored Scientists,2 Honored Workers of High School,4 Honored Doctors of Ukraine,5 winners of the state prize of Ukraine.
In addition, university invites famous professors from all over the world in order to they can share their experience with future yang specialists.

All international students enjoy full and deep studying Medicine with English speaking high-qualified lectures, medical laboratories at the University campus and practical training in municipal hospitals.

International Relations

The University is currently training about 9000 students, among them more than 4600 foreign citizens from 76 countries (India, Morocco, Nigeria, Israel, Egypt, Lebanon etc.)

The degree of KNMU, one of the oldest medical university of Ukraine, is recognized and highly respected all over the world. Cooperated with : General Medical Council, Bath SPA University, Tubingen University, General Medical Council, World Health Organisation, etc.

University Campus

Campus makes up the students dwelling area, which comprises the sports complex, hostels, buildings of a University and other special places, thus enabling the students to spend their time in rewarding way. The students’ life is full of events. Those are holidays, meetings, sport competitions, concerts, dance parties, traditional festivals etc.

Admissions and pragrams

Medical courses are available in English and Russian languages:
  1. General Medicine – In order to get doctor of medicine degree (MBBS or MD), students have to study a strict curriculum of 6 years.
  2. Dentistry – For getting the degree of Doctor of Dentistry (BDS), students have to study a 5 year course.
  3. Pharmacy – Duration of Pharmacy course is of 5 years.
  4. Nursing – The course lengths 3 years.
  5. Premedical course – During preparatory course international students acquaint with local culture, learn Russian language and study such subjects like Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Studies, etc. After premedical course students, get guaranty admission to the main course (MBBS) at September. Length of the premedical course is from several month for 1 year.

The University has established and strives to expand international links with many countries.
